Please join us for the Swing Columbus Monthly Dance, April 18 with a mini workshop!!

Dean Collins Shim Sham!
Dean Collins was born in Columbus and went on to fame as a lindy hopper in the ballrooms of NYC and choreographed many dance scenes for Hollywood movies. He created his own spin on the popular line dance called the Shim Sham. Joel Domoe will teach us the fun and challenging Dean Collins Shim Sham and we will perform it later for everyone at the evening dance. Click here to see a video!

The dance is challenging, but it’s solo so you don’t have to worry about taking care of a partner! Line dances are a great way to practice rhythms and jazz steps, which will benefit your partner dancing as well.

Joel Domoe is one of the principal organizers of swing dance events in Cincinnati. We’ve invited him up on many occasions to teach and DJ and he’s a fantastic lead as well, so ask him for a dance later!

Price: $15 adults/ $10 students, $3 discount for members of SwingColumbus

Schedule:
1:00PM Doors open
1:30-2:30 Session 1
2:45-3:45 Session 2
4:00-5:00 Session 3

Location: The Galbreath Pavillion - this is the backstage/basement area of the Ohio Theatre in downtown Columbus. If you’re facing the Theatre, go to the alley on the left side and just before you reach City Center the doors will be on your right. Take the stairs or elevator down one floor, then follow the long hallway to the last practice room. (There will be signs!)

Parking: City Center Garage or the Statehouse are two easy options.

8-9PM FREE Beginner swing lesson
9PM-midnight Dancing with DJ Rob Love from Cleveland!
$6/$4 students
$2 discount for members of SwingColumbus ($25/$15 students per year)

Because of the afternoon workshop and our guest DJ we should see quite a few out of towners, so this will be great social dancing!

Everyone who learns the Dean Collins Shim Sham in the afternoon workshop will perform it at the dance, and we’ll have a birthday jam for all our April birthdays.

We hope you’ll be able to attend!
