About
Our Scene
Central PA Swing Dance Club (CPSDC) was formed over 20 years ago hoping to show the joys of swing dance to our local community. We'd like to think we've succeeded in that fact! Each Saturday, we meet at The Green Door to teach beginner 6-count Lindy Hop and social dance afterwards, creating great opportunities to meet new people and make friends with other dancers. In recent years, our Tuesdays have switched gears into more lesson-based evenings, giving our more intermediate dancers a chance to learn something new and progress with each lesson. As our scene has grown, we've taught different styles of dance including 8-count Lindy Hop, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, Balboa, Blues, Fusion, Zouk, West Coast Swing and more! We often enjoy hosting live bands for social dances and inviting amazing guest instructors to teach workshops. We welcome all dancers, whether you be brand new to dance or an advanced lindy hopper, throwing down on the dance floor! We love to watch our scene grow and improve their dance skills and we'd love to see YOU at The Green Door soon!
What is lindy hop?
Lindy Hop is a vibrant and energetic partner dance that originated in Harlem, NYC, during the late 1920's and 30's. Rooted in African American culture and the swing jazz era, Lindy blends elements of earlier dances such as Charleston and tap with improvisation and musicality. The Savoy Ballroom, a famous integrated dance hall, was the heart of Lindy Hop's development, where legendary dancers like Frankie Manning helped shape it's style. After a decline in popularity mid-century, Lindy Hop experienced a global revival in the 1990's and today thrives as a joyful, social dance celebrated worldwide! Lindy Hop enthusiasts gather annually at major events like ILHC, The International Lindy Hop Championships in the US and Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden along with many others all over the globe, keeping the dance's rich tradition alive and well.
